Stolen shoes. The shoe wasn’t stolen. The bride mates tried her shoe on and if it was the right size, that mate asked the groom to pay for it. The groom should show how rich and successful he is. The traditional fare for a shoe was sweets, gingerbreads and ribbons.

Bride’s flowers. It is supposed that the throwing the bride’s nosegays is American tradition. But there was a tradition like that in Ukraine. The bride gave a nosegay to her mate who was going to get married soon. Lately the bride just threw the flowers to a crowd of mates.

Bread. Parents always meet the new wedded couple with bread and salt. It is a tradition from ancient Egypt. In Egypt the bread was like gold – the symbol of wealth. The bread was always respected.

Snags. They are special rolls which are given to guests when they are leaving. Less rolls left more happy years will have the husband and wife. This tradition is from West Ukraine.

Word «wedding» and also chaplets, ring, fata, candles, wedding presents, etc. come from ancient Greece and Rome to us.
